It bothers me that all I do with the guitar is strum. But then you listen to someone like Johnny Cash, and you ask yourself how did he do it and still not end up boring.

The key is practice, practice until the guitar is part of you. Then you can start expressing yourself with it. Some people talk, some write poetry, and some of us play. There is nothing wrong with just strumming, but if it becomes boring it is time to try something more challenging. Try a lead line or harder chord progression. Its fun and addictive.

Yea, learn some scales and practicing them a lot and you will get ideas
