I guess I will join the "looking for a song" theme

Hi all,

I am engaged in a quest to find the name and performing artist/s of a song I saw
the video for on VH1 around Christmas time a few years ago.

I remember it as being a very good song, one I would like to have available to
listen to when I want to.

I will relate the details as best I can recall.

The artists name as I remember was not a single person but one of those
JoeCountry and the [fill in the blank], something like JoeCountry and the Cadillacs,
something like this. The key words being "and the".

But the lead and only vocal as I remember is a female. A very good, strong female
singer.

Thats the music.

The accompanying video is a tad hard to explain, or at least as best I can explain
it, it sounds weird.

The main and pretty much only character in the video appears to be a gay male who
has this rather radical and unforgetable hair style that consists of his long hair being
combed straight up and held in place with hair spray which gives his head the look of
a giant round paint brush if that makes any sense.

This person apprently works in a department store as one of those people who puts
up merchandising displays for clothes with manniquins etc. At the end of the video
this person gets a Christmas gift from someone that turns out to be a puppy.

I know it sounds strange but if you had ever seen this video you would probably
remember it, which is what I am counting on....

The song is a good one and has an upbeat "Patsy Cline" sound to it.....

I have it stuck in my head albiet rather vague and I hope I can find out who this is.

After giving it a few days and with no replies I pretty much thought I'd reached another dead end in this quest, but I checked again today and....

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!

Jerry T if I could I'd hug ya! You can't believe how excited I got about finally finding out the answer to this question! I think it was partially because I like the song alot but after a while it just became a matter of "the quest" itself if you know what I mean. I went to Music Match to see if I could download the song there and while they did have it listed by Vince Vance and the Valiants, it was not available. The only artists who had it available were Mariah Carey and Foghat. Ha, well I will pass on those two versions.

I have but one other "quest" in the area of unknown songs well two actually but they are both in the same category and I think anyone who could help with one would know the other.

I have a great sense of humor if I may say so myself. Sometimes dry and sardonic, I like puns and parodies too...but they must be well done, nothing is worse than poorly told joke or a poorly done parody.

Probably 20 years ago back in the early to mid 80s, I remember hearing two songs that are etched into my memory because they were funny and well done parodies. One had to do with the Captain and Tenille song "Muskrat Love". A female vocalist was singing the song but in the backround you could hear the popping and crackling of a deep fryer and it becomes evident the gist is eating deep fried muskrats. Very funny.

The second song had a country feel to it and the singer sang in a very convincing Johnny Cash style (with all due respect God rest his soul).
The title of the song was Transvestite Cowboy and this manly voice sings about wearing "fancy, frilly" things etc.....again, very well done and funny IMO.

I have written to alot of people, mainly people who are into "novelty" songs like the Dr. Demento types, music historians, I even wrote to Bob Rivers who has done many well done parodies himself, albums of them and I have yet to get one reply.

But what the hey, Jerry T did so well I though I would put it out here and see if it rings any bells.

Thanks for the response paperboy,

I listened to the mp3 and from this and what I remember of the lyrics this appears to be a much newer song.

What made the song I describe so funny and memorable was the voice of the singer, a very good imitation of Johnny Cash (God Rest His Soul).

The contrast of that voice talking about "fancy, frilly things" was most effective.
