I have been looking for the correct lyrics for the song below, which I think is called "Surprise, Surprise" was on a record my parents had when I was a young teenager (I am 44 now). I don't know who recorded it. Does anyone have the correct lyrics or know who recorded this song? It means a lot to me to find it. Thanks!
A little girl of second grade watched me while I played
from the corner of her eye,
But when it came to girls, with freckle face and curls,
I guess that I was kinda shy,
And then when Christmas came, she didn’t draw my name,
but still she bought a gift for me,
And I recalled that day, I tried to slip away,
so my friends wouldn’t see.
She said:
Surprise, Surprise, I brought you a present,
Now close your eyes so you can’t see,
hold out your hand, this gift is for you,
Because you mean so much to me.
As the years went by, my interests changed
and I began to see her now and then,
And every Christmas time, and maybe Valentines,
she’d laugh, and say those words again,
Then came the magic years when womanhood appears,
like flowers blossoming in spring, and I began to find her always on my mind, so I gave her a ring.
I said:
Surprise, surprise, I brought you a present,
Now close your eyes so you can’t see,
Hold out your hand, this gift is for you,
Because you mean so much to me.
________________________________________________________________________
And angels carried her afar, this lonely half a man will join her when he can, and I’ll give her a star.
I’ll say:
Surprise, surprise, I brought you a present
Now close your eyes so you can’t see,
Hold out your hand, this gift is for you ,
Because you mean so much to me |

I can;t find who did the song, either.
I believe the verse at the end that you are missing, is:
Never thought that little girl
with freckle face and curl
would grow up to be my wife.
With every passing day
she grew in every way,
to be my joy,
to be my life.
But she was small and frail
and her health began to fail,
and angels carried her afar.
But slowly half a man
will join here when he can,
and I'll take her aside ( you have "and I’ll give her a star" and that may be right, because it's been 30+ years since I heard the song).
Sorry I couldn't be more help. And took 2 years to respond. You are the first link I've found tht even mentions this song. Ever. |
