Rolling Eyes I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how country music has influenced their lives. This is for a report for my sociology class so I could use all the help I can get. Just tell me what decade it was that you grew up in listening to country music and maybe share how it's affected your life, family values, etc. Thanks so much!!!!

I was born in 77 and grew up knee deep in Country Music. I was picked on mercilessly for this (my favorite song was "I was Country when Country Wasn't Cool) ha ha. I think my love for Country Music made me stronger, and as an adult, I am less afraid to be myself, because now I am able to seek out other people who are smart enough to love country music, and so I realize I am not alone. Being yourself can be tough, but it pays off in the end! Also, I grew up listening to Johnny Cash round the clock, and he is a big reason why my faith in Christ is so strong. Certain songs and performers also gave me spiritual courage, such as John Michael Montgomery's "The Little Girl" - take that Patrick! So, in short, Country Music is a huge part of who I am, and now that I'm "grown", I'm very proud of that.

I was born in '54. I grew up on country music. It taught me mostly that you could screw up and cheat on a loved one, but you always were true to family and friends. You make mistakes and learn from them and you dont do people wrong or there will be a price to pay. It taught me to take responsibility for my own actions and not to always blame someone else.

I grew up in honky-tonks watching my father belt out the latest Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard songs. I swayed into the Hair band scene and on to Metallica until Garth Brooks and George Strait's movie Pure Country pulled me back into country. I am a devout Waylon Jennings fan and have been recently influenced by Pat Green and the Texas Music that is exploding.
